Compensation amounts
How much can flight compensation be?
EU 261 sets three fixed amounts based on the distance of the disrupted flight. The final figure depends on the route, not on the ticket price.
Check your flight€250
Up to 1,500 km
Examples: Vilnius–Riga, London–Amsterdam, Berlin–Paris
€400
1,500 km to 3,500 km
Examples: Vilnius–London, Frankfurt–Dubai, Madrid–Moscow
€600
Over 3,500 km
Examples: Vilnius–New York, Paris–Tokyo, Amsterdam–Bangkok
When the amount can be reduced
If the airline offers you an alternative flight and you accept it, the compensation may be reduced by 50% — but only if the alternative arrives within certain time windows:
- Up to 1,500 km: reduced if the alternative arrives no more than 2 hours after the original scheduled arrival.
- 1,500 km to 3,500 km: reduced if the alternative arrives no more than 3 hours late.
- Over 3,500 km: reduced if the alternative arrives no more than 4 hours late.
The reduction applies only when you actually take the rerouted flight. If you refuse the alternative and choose a refund instead, the full compensation amount still applies.
What the amount does not depend on
- The price you paid for the ticket — a €50 budget ticket and a €500 business ticket can attract the same compensation.
- Whether the delay was announced long in advance — what matters is the actual arrival time at the final destination.
- The airline's nationality — EU 261 applies to qualifying flights regardless of the carrier.
- How many passengers were on the flight — compensation is per passenger, not per booking.
Gross amount before our fee
The amounts above are the gross compensation set by the regulation. AirDue's success fee is deducted only if and when the compensation is recovered. If we do not recover anything, you owe nothing.
