Ryanair compensation

Ryanair compensation for delays, cancellations and denied boarding

Ryanair is Europe's largest low-cost carrier, so disruptions are common. As an EU carrier, Ryanair must follow Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 – compensation ranges from €250 to €600 per passenger.

Typical situations

Delay of more than 3 hours

If you reached your final destination at least 3 hours late, compensation is due unless extraordinary circumstances caused the delay. Technical faults or crew shortages are not extraordinary.

Cancellation less than 14 days before departure

Ryanair often rebooks passengers or refunds the ticket. A refund or free rebooking does not remove your separate right to EU 261 compensation.

Denied boarding on an overbooked flight

With a confirmed reservation and on-time presence at the gate, compensation is due immediately – extraordinary circumstances do not apply.

Missed Ryanair connection

If both flights were on one booking and the first delay made you miss the second, the total delay at your final destination is what counts.

What is specific about Ryanair

  • Ryanair asks passengers to claim through its own form and often replies with a standard rejection – that does not mean you have no right.
  • Ryanair requires direct claims, but this does not limit your right to appoint a representative.
  • Reasons Ryanair labels as extraordinary (technical faults, crew rotation, a previous flight's delay) are usually rejected by courts.
  • Ryanair flight numbers start with FR – see your boarding pass or confirmation email.

Most common Ryanair routes from Lithuania

Ryanair flies from Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga. Distance decides the amount: up to 1,500 km – €250, 1,500–3,500 km – €400, over 3,500 km – €600.

  • Vilnius–London (Stansted / Luton) and Vilnius–Dublin – roughly 1,700–2,100 km, so a 3-hour delay means €400.
  • Kaunas–London (Stansted) and Kaunas–Dublin – also €400; these rotations are often delayed late in the day.
  • Vilnius–Bergamo (Milan), Vilnius–Rome, Vilnius–Barcelona – 1,500–2,500 km, €400.
  • Vilnius–Copenhagen, Vilnius–Berlin, Vilnius–Warsaw – under 1,500 km, so €250.
  • Palanga–Copenhagen and seasonal flights to Spain and Greece – most cancellations happen here in summer.

  3. 3Ask the airline to state the reason for the disruption in writing – it is the key evidence.
  4. 4Submit your flight details for a free check – you get an answer within minutes.
  5. 5If compensation is due, we take over all communication with the airline.

Frequently asked questions

How far back can I claim from Ryanair?

In Lithuania claims can normally be made for flights within the last three years.

Does a Ryanair voucher replace compensation?

No. A voucher or refund is not EU 261 compensation – you can claim it in addition.

Ryanair rejected my claim – what now?

We review the rejection free of charge and, where justified, continue the case, including with the supervisory authority or in court.
